USL College library Celebrates 82nd National Book Week

In commemoration of the 82nd National Book Week, the College Library headed by Dr. Juliet D. Villanueva has conducted a series of activities during the month of November. The activities aimed to entice library clients to use the different materials available in the College Library. The table below lists events conducted as well as the winners.

ELEMENTARY LIBRARY CONDUCTS QUIZ BEE

The USL Elementary Library in partnership with the Young Readers Club conducted Quiz Bee featuring fables, legends and stories with moral lesson last October 13 and November 11, 2016 at the Elementary Library. The objectives of the activity were: 1) to market and promote the story book collection of Lola Basyang, Hiyas Christian Values, Adarna House, and Lampara Books, 2.) to develop the love of reading and libraries at a young age; and 3.) to promote among pupils Philippine-based fables, legends and stories with moral values written by Filipino authors and published in the Philippines. The activity was facilitated by Ms. Mary Angelique H. Baylon, Assistant to the Elementary Library Head and Juan Carlos Pajarillo, YRC President. Fourteen (14) YRC members participated in the said activity. Beatrice Malana (Grade 4 Jasmine) emerged as champion for the Junior Category while Princess Ey-ann Montaño (Grade 6 Daffodil) was the champion for the Senior Category.

UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES CONDUCTS INSET AND ECHOING OF SEMINARS

As part of the University Libraries’ goal of intensifying research productivity of librarians, part 2 of the series of in-service training entitled “Research for Libraries, Librarians as Researchers” was conducted last November 17, 2016 at the Electronic Resource Center, 2nd floor, College Library. During the inset, librarians presented their research proposals while Mrs. Luisa B. Aquino, the speaker and facilitator discussed with the librarians what to consider when writing proposals. She also pointed out during the presentation of outputs how objectives and/or problems should be stated, providing tips on how to formulate them correctly.

Meanwhile, seminar echoing was also conducted on November 10, 2016 at the College Library. Seminars attended by library staff from June to October 2016 were echoed with the group to provide updates on trends in relation to the librarianship profession. The following seminars were echoed:
