USL College Library Celebrates International Literacy Day

IMG_20150915_151153In celebration of the International Literacy Day with the theme:  “Literacy and Sustainable Societies”, the Filipiniana librarian spearheaded a Quiz Bee Contest which was an open entry where there were 15 students from different departments participated in. Questions were drawn from the select books related to Digital, Media and Visual Literacies that were categorized from easy, average and difficult. The activity was conducted last September 15, 2015@3pm at the 2nd Floor of the College Library. Such activity was conducted through the following objectives a) to provide students an opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas about the relevance of the library through advance technologies; b) to educate the students on library’s essential role in their studies.

In the said competition the winners are as follows:

  • 1st place- Patrick Reyes- BSAC-5
  • 2nd place- Hanna Lee Erro- BLIS- 3
  • 3rd place - Francis Cordova- BSIT-1

USL Launches Its Book Mobile Project at the Provincial Child Development Center

p2The USL Libraries has once again successfully launched its project called “Book Mobile” to one of its partner organizations, the Provincial Child Development Center at Capitol Compound, Caggay, Tuguegarao City last September 3, 2015. It was spearheaded by the College Library Head, Mrs. Juliet D. Villanueva.

USL Libraries believe that libraries are space for everyone seeking knowledge without any prejudice, thus the Book Mobile Project was conceptualized and implemented to reach out particularly to children in the community through Daycare Centers. The said project has the following objectives:  1) to extend library services to partner communities by providing them access to books; 2) to foster a culture of reading among children in partner communities; and 3) to introduce the role of libraries in societies.

Restore & Embrace One’s Culture Through Reading

p1In celebration of the City Fiesta of Tuguegarao and the National Heroes Day, The College Library has spearheaded a “Month-Long Cofee-table Books Parade” set-up at the 3rd Floor, the culmination of which was a “Talk on The Transformation of Tuguegarao City” delivered by Dr. Imogen Claire Callangan on August 25, 2015 at 3:00 in the afternoon.

Such activity aimed to improve the availability and dissemination of Special Filipiniana collection, promote books that contain faithful representations of nature, art, people and history and feature the Philippines and Tuguegarao City.
