ELEMENTARY LIBRARY CELEBRATES 83RD NATIONAL BOOK WEEK

The Elementary Library, has celebrated the annual National Book Week with this year’s theme Libraries Take Action: Providing Access and Opportunity for All from November 16-29, 2017 through a series of meaningful activities for the Elementary pupils. Through the leadership of Mrs. Arlyn S. Cristobal, Elementary Library Head and Ms. Mary Angelique Baylon, Assistant to the Elementary Library Head, activities such as “Name that Book: a Quiz Bee” “Shelfie” Contest, “Origami Making Contest”, “Tagisan ng mga Top Readers”, “Quiz Bee” featuring Newspapers, “Quiz Bee Featuring Storybooks”, and “Philippine Tour featuring Maps” were conducted.

The activities’ main objectives were: (1) to foster the love for library, (2) to improve the reading culture of pupils through the use of story books; (3) to test pupils’ familiarity with the classic stories for children; (4) to test pupils’ familiarity of places in the Philippines using maps; and (5) to test pupils’ awareness of current events through the use of newspapers.

USL Libraries Celebrates National Book Week 2017

“Libraries Take Action: Providing Access and Opportunity to All” is the theme for the National Book Week 2017 which was celebrated by the USL College Library last November 23-27, 2017. Week-long activities spearheaded by Mrs. Juliet D. Villanueva, College Library Head in coordination with the Section Heads and Circulation staffs as leaders of the different contested events were conducted. Such activities aimed to showcase the College Library’s collection and services.

Day 1, November 23, 2017: “Story Web (Fiction Books)” and “Globe Tour (Teacher-student tandem)” led by Ms. Maria Theresa C. Bautista and Mr. Onofre C. Unciano, Jr. respectively were successfully conducted.

ELEMENTARY LIBRARY CONDUCTS QUIZ BEE

The USL Elementary Library conducted Quiz Bee featuring fables, legends and stories with moral lesson last October 30 and November 6, 2017 at the Elementary Library. The objectives of the activity were: 1) market and promote the story book collection specifically fables and stories with moral lesson; 2) to test the reading comprehension of pupils using the featured story books; 3) to develop the love for reading and libraries at a young age; and 4) to promote among pupils Philippine-based storybooks written by Filipino authors and published in the Philippines. The activity was facilitated by Ms. Mary Angelique H. Baylon, Assistant to the Elementary Library Head. Fifteen (15) pupils from Grade 1 – 3 for Junior Category and fourteen (14) pupils from Grade 4 – 6 for Senior Category were participated in the said activity. Socrates Cruz (Grade 3 Zinnia) emerged as champion for the Junior Category while and James Benedict C. Tan (Grade 6 Daffodil) was the champion for the Senior Category.


The activity was evaluated by the participants generally as EXCELLENT.
