p2The USL Libraries has once again successfully launched its project called “Book Mobile” to one of its partner organizations, the Provincial Child Development Center at Capitol Compound, Caggay, Tuguegarao City last September 3, 2015. It was spearheaded by the College Library Head, Mrs. Juliet D. Villanueva.

USL Libraries believe that libraries are space for everyone seeking knowledge without any prejudice, thus the Book Mobile Project was conceptualized and implemented to reach out particularly to children in the community through Daycare Centers. The said project has the following objectives:  1) to extend library services to partner communities by providing them access to books; 2) to foster a culture of reading among children in partner communities; and 3) to introduce the role of libraries in societies.

The launching program was graced by the Program Coordinator for Children, Mrs. Milagros S. Catral, who gave her welcome address, the Provincial Social Welfare Development Officer, Ms. Helen M. Donato, who participated in the untying of ribbon for the launching and successfully delivered her inspirational message. Other PCDC Day Care workers also unselfishly extended their warm welcome and hospitality.

The learning activities that were conducted are as follows: 1) Storytelling Fiesta; 2) Nursery Rhymes; and 3) Coloring sessions. Such activities were successfully and joyfully participated in by preschoolers of the PCDC Daycare Center through the assistance of library staff and BLIS students as facilitators, storytellers and Nursery rhymes’ teachers. After the activity sessions, turn-over of documents and reading materials to the PCDC Day Care worker, Mr. Jomar Dolfo followed.

Along with this project, it is hoped that someday, the passion and love for reading among preschoolers in partner Day Care centers will not only become a habit but also a gateway for becoming information literate person towards becoming responsible citizens in their community.
