authorvisit1National Book Week (NBW) 2013 was celebrated with gaiety, joviality and significance combined.  You see these in these events:

1. Author Visit.

Dr. Imogen Callangan came to the University with her coffee-table book “The Transformation of Tuguegarao City”. She talked about her book and her reading and writing experiences. She encouraged the Louisian Stars to read and take advantage of the awesome High School Library.

2. Harapan sa Silid-Aklatan

Miss Kharen Narag, a seasoned debater and HS Library’s Circulation In-charge talked about the rudiments of the British Parliamentary Debate in front of the debating teams and their respective coaches. There were three rounds all in all:

Round 1 (3rd Yr vs. 4th Yr):  “This house believes that books are better than television” 

Winner: Government Side: Third Year

Round 2 (Grade 7 vs. Grade 8): “This house believes that books are better than movies”

Winner: Opposition Side: Grade 8

Round 3 (Third Year vs. Grade 8):  “This house believes that using the Library is better than using the Internet”

Winner: Government Side: Third Year

3. Movie Treat

Each week, a movie was shown. Week 1: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; Week 2: Akeelah and the Bee; Week 3: Brothers Grimm; and Week 4: Letters to God

4. Tandem Current Events Quiz

Each curriculum in the HS department sent two contestants for this. Questions were drawn from the three titles of broad sheets subscribed to by the HS Library: Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star and Philippine Daily Inquirer.

5. Shelfie Contest

This was both for teachers and student. There were 24 entries collected for this event. Each contained a SELFIE with a favorite book plus a write up on why is the book a favorite plus the lesson learned from it.

The parade of the self-taken pictures was a sight to behold.

To top it all, the Comic Books Section was launched on November 28th. CosPlayers from the different departments of the University, the Principal, the DOL and the Grade 7 Wisdom students were present.
This year’s NBW theme was: Libraries: Promoters and Preservers of Culture and Arts. And you bet the High School Louisians celebrated the NBW the STAR way!!!
