The role of library in the academic institutions is unbeatable, to say so because the library, it being the heart of the school, is primed responsive and accessible source of print and non-print information.

Having said this, the Cagayan and Kalinga-Apayao (CaAKAp) Librarians Association, Inc. in cooperation with the University of Saint Louis has conducted a Forum on the Role of Librarians in the Philippines Education System.

The first lecture which is on “The Role of Libraries in HEIs” was discussed by Dr. Evelyn L. Pascua, CHED Region 02 Director. The DepEd Regional Director Dr. Lourdes Angoluan spoke on the “Role of Libraries in Basic Education.” The two other topics which are along the best practices of libraries on service delivery, in particular, “How to Become Effective Academic Library: The USL Experience,” and “Becoming an Effective School Library: The USL Experience” were handled respectively by Mr. Michael Pinto, the USL Director of Libraries and Ms. Venus Ibarra, USL HS Librarian.

This one-day forum was held at the Theophile Verbist building at the University of Saint Louis last May 25, 2012. The activity was indeed a very laudable program as it was meant to help the participants to better understand and put value on the role of libraries and librarians in the provision of a friendly library service delivery to the clients.

Part of the side affair during the occasion was the Book Fair wherein different book publishers were invited to take part in the activity. As part of the process the faculty were directed to examine the books that were exhibited at the 2nd floor of the college library and recommend their needs for purchase.

On the whole, the activity was a big success as it was accomplished based on its objectives.
