Librarians Make the Heart Beat

Click to Browse Pictures“Going back to the basics to move forward in the field of librarianship”. This was the theme of the two day seminar spearhead by the University Libraries workforce in tandem with the newbie Student Organization of Library and Information Science (SOLIS) held at the University’s Bulwagang Teodulfo Domingo on September 8-9, 2011.

Some sixty-two librarians, teacher librarians and para-professionals came from the different provinces of Region II to as far as Manila. Renowned expert-lecturers in the field have been invited to deliver the essentials and lead the participants back to the basics of cataloging, classification, and indexing and be challenged in the present to come up with good information literacy and library instruction programs for library users. The Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) students gained much from this colloquium as the lectures presented were an augmentation to what they are learning from their subjects in the current semester.

The Rotary Club of Tuguegarao Citadel led by Dr. Rosalinda Valdepeñas gave a zing to the program when they awarded books to the Patria Sable Corpuz College and F. L. Vargas College Tuguegarao, CaAKAP- chosen recipients of books for donation by the celebrated society.

The recently concluded activity is believed to propel librarians from passivity to action, from timidity to achievement and from meekness to triumph. Indeed, activities such as this, prove that the Library is the heart of an institution but without the librarians, that heart will never beat!
