The USL Elementary Library conducted Quiz Bee featuring fables, legends and stories with moral lesson last October 30 and November 6, 2017 at the Elementary Library. The objectives of the activity were: 1) market and promote the story book collection specifically fables and stories with moral lesson; 2) to test the reading comprehension of pupils using the featured story books; 3) to develop the love for reading and libraries at a young age; and 4) to promote among pupils Philippine-based storybooks written by Filipino authors and published in the Philippines. The activity was facilitated by Ms. Mary Angelique H. Baylon, Assistant to the Elementary Library Head. Fifteen (15) pupils from Grade 1 – 3 for Junior Category and fourteen (14) pupils from Grade 4 – 6 for Senior Category were participated in the said activity. Socrates Cruz (Grade 3 Zinnia) emerged as champion for the Junior Category while and James Benedict C. Tan (Grade 6 Daffodil) was the champion for the Senior Category.

The activity was evaluated by the participants generally as EXCELLENT.

In celebration of the International Literacy Day with the theme:  “Literacy in the Digital World”, the Filipiniana Section Librarian, Mrs. Daisy Q. Dagdag spearheaded a Quiz Bee among 21 students from different department. Prior to the Quiz Bee, Mrs. Juliet D. Villanueva, College Library Head talked about Information and Media Literacies while Mrs. Danoleene Tugade, Reference & Online Resource Librarian shared about Visual and Digital Literacies. Quiz Bee questions were drawn from the selected books related to Digital, Media and Visual Literacies displayed for a month at the Filipiniana Exhibit Area. The activity was conducted last October 25, 2017, at 4:30 pm at the 2nd Floor of the College Library. The following winners were awarded with certificates of recognition and tokens:

• 1^st Place- Khristian Jay  Sto. Tomas – SEASH
• 2^nd Place- Norvin Ganiac - SHS
• 3^rd Place - Clark Ivan Zipagan - SEADITE

In support to the Elementary Library’s promotional and marketing strategy, the Young Readers Club (YRC) spearheaded by the YRC President, Vince Carlo Collado, with the assistance of the YRC adviser, Mrs. Arlyn S. Cristobal, has started conducting a Book sharing constituting books which were borrowed from the Elementary library. The objective of the said activity is to promote love for reading among YRC officers and members and also to promote newly acquired books. The first part was done on September 29, 2017 at the Elementary Library Audio Visual Room with 10 participants. The book sharing will serve as a regular activity of the YRC every Fridays.
